Abstract
The light produced by screens in the evening delays melatonin production and therefore affects the quality of sleep of schoolaged children evening users of TV, tablets and video-games (Brockman et al., 2010), aggravating sleep-onset delays or circadian rhythm as well. On the contrary, exposure to light in the morning contributes to a better functioning of biological rhythms (Auger et al., 2015). This study aims to:
(1) Confirm the harmfulness of screens exposure and screens in children’s bedroom on children’s sleep and behaviour.
(2) Determine the role of age for the first exposure
(3) Confirm that the morning exposure has low impact on children’s sleep and behaviour.
(4) Model interaction between sleep, screens and behavior.
Protocols
- Cross-sectional study included 375 children between 6 and 16 years old filled a questionnaire concerning screen’s use of their children, the French-version of the Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children (Putois et al., 2017) and the ADHD Rating Scale (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, DuPaul et al., 1998).
